About the workshop
Supported by Sandy’s demonstrations and your direct experimentation with advanced techniques – including glazing, layering, transparency /opacity, solvent pours, drawing and mark making – you will produce a series of “small” paintings. Expect to utilize technical aspects of tools, surfaces, colour, values, shapes & composition. Learn new ways to apply paint to a surface and be liberated by eliminating the use of brushes. This medium inspires intuition, evolution and access to one’s inner voice. You will leave the workshop with a fully developed painting on a larger ground that will summarize the extent of your creative exploration in oil and cold wax.
Come on a voyage of discovery and be astonished by your achievements. For further information or to discuss your fit in this workshop, email Sandy: sk@sandykayart.com.

About the instructor
Sandy was born and spent most of her adult life in the United States, moving to BC in 1999. She attended classes at the Chicago Art Institute, East Carolina University and Miami Dade College and studied directly under master artists.
Living and painting on the Sunshine Coast, Sandy Kay is inspired by the surrounding natural world. After a lifetime of working in multiple mediums and styles, her work has shifted from representational to more abstracted imagery. Her focus over the past five years on oil and cold wax medium has seen her develop her techniques and palette which she enthusiastically shares with students in the GSA workshop.
