Workshops

June 25-29
$475 Suzanne Northcott

In this workshop Suzanne will work with painters who are using abstraction or interested in moving in that direction.

Various approaches to abstraction will be considered and the power of surfaces and symbols explored. Discussions and demos will cover building surfaces, brushwork, figure/ground relationship composition and personal expression. Students may choose to integrate drawing media or image transfer into their work and this will be discussed in the classroom as well. Expect to be challenged, to be brave, to have fun.

July 9-13
$475 David McEown

In this workshop, students will learn essential watercolour techniques and perception exercises that will enable them to paint directly from nature.

Studio painting lessons will focus on and be inspired by ocean shorelines, mountain mist and rain forest. Watercolour’s magical flowing spontaneity and ethereal softness, as well as its ability to make crisp, highly defined form will be explored. This workshop is for intermediate level painters, but beginners are also welcome.

July 16-20
$475 When we were Young II by Greta Guzek

During this workshop students will encounter the ”tricky foursome”: Design, Background, Value and Colour.

Each of these elements in turn will become the focus, in the hope of  understanding how to manipulate them  into a better painting. The first two days will be spent doing exercises and demos; the next three will be spent creating a painting or two which incorporate what has been learned. Each session will end with a discussion of the day’s work.   WORKSHOP FULL

Portraits in Oil

July 23-27
$475 Portrait by David Goatley

Students will explore the challenges of portraiture with one of Canada’s leading portrait painters. Over the five days, working from models, students will cover pro- portions of the head, building convincing features, the importance of tone, colour mixing and value, and techniques to help them make lively and engaging portraits in oil. David is very much a hands-on teacher, painting alongside his students and demonstrating every step of the way. Although this is intended as an oil class, acrylic painters are welcome.
